Edmund was born into a rich and successful family in York, England. Of course, his parents expected much of him as the oldest son and, being the way he was, Edmund always believed he was the son his parents had always dreamed of, when really that title was taken by his younger, richer, smarter and more successful brother, Archie. Sure his parents smiled at him and such, but they were always forced smiles, meanwhile they looked at Archie with adoration. Edmund did well in his studies -- not as well as Archie, but I think he has been mentioned enough in this history -- so well that he was accepted to a prestigious college in France. This was were Edmund's love for the language began (it was also were he met his, now, ex-wife but that is unimportant). Once he graduated, he knew what he had to do, not become a doctor or lawyer like his parents planned, but to teach the beautiful language to the young. Of course, he refused to teach anything to the young if they were not interested in the topic, so he applied for Brightvale. As much as he would like to say that he was accepted the first time, he wasn't. Nor was he the second or third time. But, ninth times the charm and he was finally admitted to teaching, probably because the Headmaster was annoyed by his persistent applications.

Edmund is something else. He doesn't see what others see, and not in the poetic, artsy way, but in the weird delusional way. When someone said they hated him, he believed it to be just a bump in the road they would soon pass and poured never ending showers of love upon them. He is quite comical as well, but not intentionally. Any intentional tries at humor failed miserably and were answered with an awkward silence. He also tries (and fails) at romance, but he is a hopeless romantic at heart and still believes (after 15 years of service in the academy) that he will woo one of the faculty members!
