Tyell Duran was born poor. He has had to work, hard, for everything he has ever achieved. He excelled in English and History in his public school growing up. He found, and applied for, Brightvale Academy on his own at the age of fifteen. However, exemplary grades at a moderately ranked public school are hardly enough to earn admittance into the academy, and he would have been turned down had it not been for the phenomenal essay he submitted along with his application. Though he continued to excel in subjects such as English and History, and found that he also had an aptitude for Government and Foreign Languages, he found himself already far behind his fellow students, many of whom had attended advanced schools or had private tutors prior to coming to Brightvale. Despite finding himself at a disadvantage, his ambition to succeeded was undaunted, and he simply worked harder.
He graduated from Brightvale Academy with honors, and despite the wealth of other opportunities he had upon graduating, accepted a teaching position at Brightvale. Over the years he taught many of his favorite subjects, and was eventually promoted to Deputy Headmaster. He worked as deputy headmaster for many years. He was promoted to Headmaster when the previous Headmaster retired three years ago.

There is an ambition in him that burns like coals, quietly, slowly, but with a surprising amount of intensity. He is used to being looked down on for his ignoble status. He plays by the rules and does everything by the book, but he knows that book inside and out and will make it work for him.
